Perspectives on Pinay Activism & Political Alternatives – Point Loma III F

August 2, 2014 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

8:30 am – 10:00 am    Point Loma III F

This roundtable brings together a diverse set of local voices in order to consider the form, scope, and goals of Pinay political activism in San Diego, CA. We intend to explore diverse methods of political action from community organizing to cultural productions to academic scholarship, recognizing that work on these multiple fronts is necessary to transform society both in the U.S. and in the Philippines. We will discuss how the Pinays on our panel act in response to and against forces of racism, (neo)colonialism, capitalism, militarization, patriarchy, and homophobia both in the homeland and in diaspora.

Presenters:  Amanda Solomon Amorao, Candice Custodio-Tan, M. JoAnn Lagula-Fields, Ryth Abalos Mendez, Amelia Ortega, Lily Prijoles, Ree Obaña Quiñones
