A Fil-Am Guide to “Tawid ji eKalinga” (Kalinga Traditional Arts) of the Northern Philippines – La Jolla
August 2, 2014 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am
8:30 am – 10:00 am La Jolla
At this hands-on interactive workshop, participants will hear personal stories / oral history about traditional Kalinga village life and culture, with a focus on the indigenous dance, music, apparel, and rituals of the Kalinga tribe of the Cordillera of Northern Luzon. In addition to learning the meaning and significance of dances, of particular dance steps, and of the designs and colors of handwoven textiles, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate and experience what they have learned, by participating in the dances themselves. A similar workshop was presented at the 2012 FANHS conference, and received rave reviews.
